ifttt: if this then that

For those of you who would like to get word out about yourself or your organization quickly and easily or automate your online activities then ifttt (if this then that) was made for you. Check it out: http://ifttt.com This post is an example of what you can do with ifttt: When a post is created a tweet with the title and a shortened URL,  any photos will be posted to flickr, the post will be submitted to the SLIM OR12 listserv, and the whole post will be saved to Dropbox. Pretty incredible eh?

On a side note, WordPress itself will also connect to our new Facebook page Slim-Or Scala to list updates.

InfoCamp PDX 2012

InfoCamp PDX 2012 went off without a hitch and I found it quite enjoyable. The areas outside of library science that librarians can wander into are indeed interesting! Jason Sack gave the keynote on User Experience Design and was followed by others including sessions on taxonomy, media literacy, “wow” experiences in UX and many more. I’m already looking forward to next year!

SCALA Speaker

Each year, SCALA invites a prominent librarian to come speak to the SLIM student body about current issues and topics in librarianship. And the 2011-12 year speaking event is nearly upon us! This year SCALA will be welcoming Katie Anderson, Youth Services Consultant for the Oregon State Library and Emporia SLIM alumna. She’ll be speaking on a variety of topics including youth services, skills “beyond the basics,” intellectual freedom, and The Bunny Suicides. It’ll be a great opportunity to meet and hear from one of our own, so pick up some lunch and come by Cramer 401 to hang out with Katie and SCALA!

When: January 21, 2012

12:45 PM – 1:15 PM, followed by a Q&A

Where: Cramer Hall room 401

Portland State University

Bring lunch!

The Joy of Books: Bookshelf Porn

From the website: “Porn for book lovers. A photo blog collection of all the best bookshelf photos from around the world for people who *heart* bookshelves.”

This new one is particularly good. Enjoy.
