SCALA Emporia Portland: Hosting a Trivia Night!! (April 15, 2017)

SCALA Emporia Portland will host a Trivia Night, April 15, 2017, from 7 pm-9 pm,  at the Black Water Bar, in Portland, Oregon. Trivia Night monies raised will help support both the Children’s Book Bank and Books for Prisoners Programs. Come have a fun evening supporting a couple of great programs, and have great fun with Trivia questions.

Trivia Night was a Success!

Above is a picture of the beaming trivia night winners from our first ever library themed trivia night and another of the contestants deep in thought with our wonderful host Greg! The event was organized as a fundraiser for SCALA to benefit the Librarian Prom, coming up in May. Approximately 30 library enthusiast were in attendance to battle for an old card catalog drawer filled with miscellaneous items, candy, and chocolate. It seems that everyone had a good time and many were excited at the prospects of continuing the event in the future. Thank you all for participating and making the event a success!

More on SCALA Fundraising

Back in February, SCALA started their t-shirt and canvas bag fundraising campaign. We still need your help!

If you can, please purchase a t-shirt or canvas bag from either Etsy or contact our Community Outreach Liaison, Nyssa Walsh ( for local purchasing. We will be bringing these with us to as many events as possible in the future, including Interlibrary Lush on April 21 from 7-10 pm at The Red Fox (5128 N. Albina). We will not have them in time for the 2011 Oregon Library Association conference, but look for Nyssa in her snazzy shirt on Thursday, April 6 (tomorrow) at the conference.

For those of you who would like to support SCALA and our efforts to provide exciting events  and speakers for students as well as networking and professional development opportunities, but don’t want to purchase anything, you can still donate! We will also be taking donations at Interlibary Lush or you can send donations to via PayPal.

Thanks for all of you help with SCALA. Hope to see you at future events!

Buy a Calendar and Help OR-10 Graduate in Style

Just in time for the holidays, the Tattooed Librarians of the Pacific Northwest calendar is ready for purchase! Head on over to and help us have an amazing graduation. We’re doing our own fundraising and every little bit helps.

SCALA is Selling T-shirts!

Help support SCALA by purchasing a t-shirt!

Do your friends question your commitment to librarianship? Prove them wrong by adorning yourself with this t-shirt bearing the visage of library icon Ranganathan:

(Thanks to Aaron Schmidt for the original idea and the permission to use it)

Cost: $10 for students and $12 for non-students. Shipping is an additional $5 (Though if you’re in the Portland area we can probably figure out some way to get it to you).

How to procure such merchandise? Simply email Eura at Be sure to tell her your size and color.

We are doing this by taking pre-orders and then ordering the shirts from the printer, so it may be a little while until you get them, but this also means you can choose whatever color you want. We plan to send off our order March 16th, so please let us know by then.

The printer uses American Apparel (wholesale catalog at or stuff distributed by Think Actionwear ( If you want something other than a basic t-shirt be aware that we will have to charge you the added cost of the garment and a slight surcharge for anything we have to order in quantities less than a dozen.

And remember library people: tell your friends and co-workers about this great offer! The proceeds from this sale will help our club put on more events and activities for you.

T-shirts are here!

Our T-Shirts have arrived!
